Epic Cycles Women's Ride and Workshop

Free!

Rides start 6.30 am from Kalinga Park, Park Av, Clayfield.

Seminar 8.45 to 10.45am at the Kalinga Bowls Club, Clark Street, Wooloowin (a short ride from Kalinga Park).

Join other women on either a leisurely 20km or an energetic 40km ride. Followed by a seminar on cycling for women, covering issues like starting out and buying your first bike, cycling with kids, cycling as sport, and touring.

You could win a Vivente Rosa women's road bike worth more than $1000 from Epic Cycles.

11am to 12pm at the Kalinga Bowls Club. Join the Epic Cycles team as they take the mystery out of mechanical basics for riders wanting to enjoy their cycling without hassles. Learn how to fix common problems, plus time for Q & A.

Epic Cycles Mountain Biking - Come and Try

Think mountain biking is all about thrashing through the bush? Wrong! Come and try it at Gap Creek Reserve, Gap Creek Road. Test ride the latest in MTB technology from Scott, Cannondale and Yeti at the Epic Cycles test ride tent. Experienced riders will lead small groups and demonstrate bike handling skills with an obstacle course and slalom set up on the Reserve. Register between 7-8am, group rides 8-11am.

10-speed dating

Come and meet some fellow single cyclists and try speed dating on two wheels. Event commences at 6pm at a mystery location in Brisbane's CBD and finishes over coffee at South Bank. Males: this event is now full. Females: you may still sign up! Sign up here.

City News Ride To Work Day

Reddacliffe Place (top of the mall), George St, Brisbane.

Breakfast from 7am, prizes and presentations at 7.45am.

The annual sight of more than 1000 colourful cyclists invading the city in the morning really lets people know - Bike Week is on! Ride in with friends or workmates or even better - bring a new rider and spread the fun of riding to work. A free breakfast including delicious Pura milk and yoghurt, yummy Emma and Tom's Life Juice, and fantastic Merlo coffee will be a reward for every rider there. Epic Cycles will be giving away a Cannondale mountain bike! Plus other great prizes. Check the start locations for the one nearest you.

It's Ride to Uni day too - University of Queensland students and staff will be well fed by the UQ SPORT team with a brekkie on the St Lucia campus 7am onwards. Based on the remarkable true story of Scottish cyclist Graeme Obree (played by Jonny Lee Miller). An unemployed amateur, who broke the world one-hour record on a bike of his own revolutionary design, which he constructed out of scrap metal and parts of a washing machine. Getting into the road racing scene

Conducted by the Hamilton and Pine Rivers Wheelers Cycling Club (HPRW) - Nundah Criterium Circuit, Hedley Ave - 7am - 8am.

Bring your road bike along to a free seminar on how to get into the road racing scene. HPRW officials will give short briefings on the types of road race events, racing skills, tactics, licence requirements, training hints and bike requirements. At 8am, participants may choose to enter a real club road race with other novice/first time racers*. Please register your interest in attending the free seminar by contacting Kim Flesser, e-mail or phone 3403 2210.

* To race, riders must purchase a racing licence - available on the day. Cost is $18 for a one day licence, or proportionally much cheaper for longer periods up to a year. Even if you choose not to race, practice/training after the HPRW race meeting at the circuit is free.

Criterium - The Bike Week Cup

Entry cost $10. Conducted by the Hamilton and Pine Rivers Wheelers Cycling Club (HPRW) - Nundah Criterium Circuit, Hedley Ave 8.30 am onwards.

A genuine amateur open criterium that will attract the best cyclists around. Total prize pool of $2000.

Introduction to a personal cycling training program

Join highly regarded cycling coach, Marcel Bengtson for a free training session.

  • Windtrainer session - bring your own bike and be taken through a structured road training session indoors.
  • Climb Mt Coot-tha indoors before attempting the hill.

Marcel will talk about cycle training, preparation and periodisation for various rides and events, hill climbing techniques and pedaling techniques.

Sessions at 2pm and 4pm. Places are limited.

In the sporting world the Tour de France is a unique feat of endurance and athletic endeavour, but what is special about a rider who can win five Tours in a row such as Miguel Indurain, or even seven in a row as Lance Armstrong did?

Six-time Tour finisher and Olympian, Stephen Hodge, will explain some of the less obvious mental and team attributes needed to win the 3,500km+ epic, help the winner or simply get to the end of the Tour de France.

Three course meal (set menu, alternate drop). There will be a cash bar. Dress standard is smart casual.
