You can do it!
If you are moderately fit, then you can do this ride. Some people on previous rides didn't even own a bike until they decided to join friends on Cycle Queensland.
Ride at whatever pace you want. It doesn't matter if it takes you two hours or all day to pedal between each campsite. On Cycle Queensland you'll never be on your own. We have marshals, mechanics and First Aiders on the route as well as food and rest stops. There's even a SAG bus just in case you (or your bike) can't quite make the distance.
Just make sure you get out on your bike as much as you can in the lead up to CQ10 so you can easily manage the daily average of 72km and still have some energy left over to enjoy the nightlife.
To make sure you have the most fun possible on your cycling holiday, we recommend you do some regular riding beforehand to get yourself ready. Go to Preparing for the Ride for recommendations for an easy to follow preparation plan.
Most people who are regular cyclists but are unsure about the distances in Cycle Queensland should put in place a simple program to increase cycling frequency and distance to build their stamina and confidence. Then you'll do this event no worries.
If you are not currently a regular cyclist, say riding three times a week covering a total of 80km, then you should make sure you increase your riding frequency and distance as well as focusing on your skills. Joining a regular riding group is a way to do this. Get together with some friends or join an established club, there are plenty of non-competitive cycling groups around. Call us and we can help.
We've had participants from 4 months to 84 years - anyone can do this ride.
First Timers
If you are coming on Cycle Queensland for the very first time, we have developed some programs to make things a little easier for you.
Test rides will be available to first timers in the lead up to CQ. This will be a great chance to test out your fitness, meet other riders and get all the "insider tips" from CQ regulars. Test rides will be held in June, July and August.
A bike fit session (to make sure your bike set up is all good) will also be available to first time CQ-ers in the lead up to the start of the ride.
Keep an eye on the News and Update pages for more info and make sure you sign up to our e-newsletter to be the first in the know.
Info Nights
We have loads of information, photos and lots more that can help you get an understanding of this event.
A number of information nights will be held in the lead up to CQ10. Keep an eye on the News and Updates section for all the details.
Can't make nine days?
If you are really sure that you can't make the whole ride or you can't get enough time off work - you don't have to miss out completely.
There are flexible options for riding any part of the event. It's easy to do the ride as four days up to Monto or the four days from Monto to the finish. If you join us for four days - your cycling adventure will cost $445 (even less if you are a BQ member). To make things even easier for your, BQ can take your bike up to Yeppoon and look after it until you join us or vice versa. See the Short Rides Options info sheet.
