Surfing steak

Day 1, Saturday 4 September
Yeppoon to Rockhampton 69km

Gather on the Capricorn Coast as the excitement builds and the countdown begins. Prepare by soaking up the relaxed and welcoming atmosphere of downtown Yeppoon right on the waters edge. Breathe in the fresh ocean air and take in the coastal views as we hug the blue water before heading into the wide open countryside.

Welcome to Beef City, a charming balance between laidback country town and modern city with majestic sandstone buildings and home to the best steaks in Queensland.

Mining cows

Day 2, Sunday 5 September
Rockhampton to Mt Morgan 56km

We leave town over Rocky's historic heights, then dance with the Tropic of Capricorn as we head west. A distant horizon soon shortens as we jump up a short sharp climb to Mt Morgan, a former mining town of many firsts with hidden treasures just waiting for you to dig.

The long road to Bilo

Day 3, Monday 6 September
Mt Morgan to Biloela 105km

We take on a long flattish day through farming country into the Callide Valley. Bilo has community art that'll knock your socks off and make sure you ask why the shire is called "Banana" because there ain't no fruit trees around.

Floating flat and rippa beauty

Day 4, Tuesday 7 September
Biloela to Monto 95km

A short kick up puts you riding along a plateau as if you're floating above the surrounding world. A decent climb puts you at the highest point of the ride at almost 600metres before a ripper downhill into the rest day.

Half way between Mulgildie and Mungungo.

Day 5, Wednesday 8 September
Monto Rest Day 0km

Sleep in, linger over breakfast then explore the town. Participate in the town activities, sure to be a blast in the home of the Stretcher Race. Or head further afield to visit Cania Gorge National Park and Lake Cania, Waratah Vineyard or the Mulgildie Hotel ghost. And what of the Bunyip Hole? Or just put your feet up for the day.

Naturally beautiful wandering

Day 6, Thursday 9 September
Monto to Eidsvold 65km or 100km

It's one of the flattest days of the ride but with variety that makes it one of the best. So rested up and raring to go it's time to power on with a choice of 65 or 100km routes. We'll liven up Eidsvold by doubling the town population. It's a naturally beautiful North Burnett country town just rarin' to entertain you.

Over the hills ...

Day 7, Friday 10 September
Eidsvold to Mt Perry 80km

This is the day to save some energy for. With almost 1000m of climbing it is the hard day of the ride. Luckily Mt Perry, at the bottom of a 3km downhill, is a great place to kick back and relax. Home to rich history, mountain scenery, the Camel Cup and the Dump Truck Pull. It just keeps coming in Mt Perry.

Tunnel your way to Gin Gin

Day 8, Saturday 11 September
Mt Perry to Gin Gin 52km or 84km

Along the road today is the longest unlined, unsupported tunnel in the southern hemisphere and you can walk through it! It's a little eerie but definitely worth it. Only one day to go so make the most of your new life before you crash back into reality, Gin Gin is ready for you.

Drop bears, where?

Day 9, Sunday 12 September
Gin Gin to Bundaberg 56km

A pleasant run into Bundy along some very quiet country roads sees it all come to an end at the Bundy in Bloom Festival. Can you believe it's nine days since we left Yeppoon? And what a nine days it's been…swap addresses, swap tall tales and see you next year.
