History of the ride
The origins of Cycle Queensland began back in 1998 when BQ started preparations for what became the inaugural event in 2002. A three-day base camp ride called "Cycle Samford" saw 100 riders have a good time and BQ learn much. Research trips to other events, much planning and many long hours by a dedicated few resulted in Bundaberg to Brisbane in 2002. At the time BQ had 2 staff and about 2500 members. Today BQ has 13 staff and 10,000 members and conducts the three largest cycling events in the state.
