Test rides coming up!

14 May 2008

The best way to prepare for Cycle Queensland is to spend lots of time on your bike in the months and weeks leading up to 30 August.

To check how your CQ fitness is going, and meet a few people who are going along for the ride this year, BQ invites you to take part in the following rides.

These rides are open to people who have signed up for Cycle Queensland or are still thinking about it. If you are planning to come along on any of these rides, email Emma (e.best@bq.org.au), so we know to keep an eye out for you.

The Social: Join BQ's Jane Clarke on a social meander to New Farm and back again. This 20km loop is mostly on bike paths and is ridden at a social pace, so there'll lots of time to chat about CQ. Jane meets every Saturday morning from 14 June at 6.30am at the South Bank end of the Goodwill Bridge (near the Ship Inn).

The Hill: Starting from Sunnybank Plaza (outside the Coffee Club, Canna St) this 50km loop features a combination of quiet roads and bike paths, some warm up hills and an ascent of Mt Gravatt (July) or Mt Coot-tha (August, and a bit longer). If you can do this ride - you can do CQ! BQ's Andrew Demack will be leading the pack on Saturday 12 July and Saturday 9 August. The ride starts at 7.30am.

The River Loop: There are a few lumps and bumps to contend with as you make your way around the popular River Loop. Meet the crew at the Nepalese Pagoda, South Bank on Saturdays at 6.30am to tackle this 35km ride. Don't be shy, introduce yourself!

Don't forget to email Emma (e.best@bq.org.au) so we keep an eye out for you!

Easy Campese goes to ballot

11 March 2008

Cycle Queensland -- BQ's 9-day holiday on wheels which happens every September -- has a highly successful program called Easy Campese (112kb PDF).

Demand for Easy Campese tents has exceeded BQ's capacity to supply them for the last few years. To make the process as fair as possible, all applications for Easy Campese tents in 2008 went into a ballot. The ballot was held yesterday (10/3/08), and the names of those fortunate enough to get a tent have been contacted by email or phone.

If you were in the ballot, you will hear from us. There's no need to call the BQ office. If you were not successful, your name was placed on a prioritised waiting list. Names will move up from the waiting list if people cancel ... there won't be any extra tents ordered this year because suitable tents simply are not available.
