We have planned transport options to make your journey to and from the ride as easy as possible. Below is a summary but full details and conditions are included in the Getting There and Back info sheet.
Give your bike to us before you leave home through our extensive Home or Depot Services and your journey will be even easier. We figure if you don't have your bike to lug everywhere then you can use all the regular services just like a 'normal' tourist or resident. For details of the excellent bike transport options available see the summary below and the Bike Transport info sheet.
Cycle Queensland 2010 will start in Yeppoon (40km from Rockhampton) on Saturday 4/9/10 at 10.30am. The start site is likely to be the ocean front park on Anzac Parade.
There will be a campsite in Yeppoon on Friday 3/9/10 ($5 per head) with showers and toilets only if you don't want to shell out for accommodation in town. There are local eating houses and extra options for food on Friday and Saturday morning. Full campsite services including catering will be available from lunch on Saturday 4/9/10.
Cycle Queensland 2010 will finish in Bundaberg on Sunday 12/9/10 between 9.30am and 1pm depending on your cycling speed and preferences. The finish site will be Alexandra Park on Quay St and there will be showers available for people who have an extended trip home.
By road Yeppoon is 40km (45 minutes) from Rockhampton, 330km (4.5hours) from Bundaberg, and 660km (9.5hours) from Brisbane.
By road Bundaberg is 360km (5hours) from Brisbane, 290km (4hours) from Rockhampton and 330km (4.5hours) from Yeppoon.
Summary of options for you
The best ways to Yeppoon are to fly, catch the train or drive via Rockhampton and use connecting services. Friday 3/9/10 is the best travel day although flights in on Saturday 4/9/10 can work.
Quickest. For flying we are offering charter bus connections from Rockhampton airport to Yeppoon in addition to existing scheduled services. Rockhampton has connections north and south, 15 flights a day from Brisbane plus a direct flight from Sydney.
Most flexible. For the drivers there are two options: drive to Rockhampton and catch our charter bus connection to Yeppoon OR drive to Bundaberg (the finish town) and catch our charter bus connection to Yeppoon (makes the journey home afterwards easy).
Other. The train does have connecting buses to Yeppoon.
The best ways home from Bundaberg are to drive or catch our charter bus. Flying is also an option. Sunday 12/9/10 afternoon is the travel period for those looking to return home immediately.
Easiest. Catch our charter buses to Brisbane or Brisbane Airport.
Most flexible. For the drivers there are two options - pickup your car left in Bundaberg pre event and drive home OR catch our charter bus connection to Rockhampton, pickup your car left pre event and drive home.
Quickest. For flying Bundaberg has an airport with daily commercial services including direct flights to Brisbane.
Other. The Tilt Train services Bundaberg multiple times a day. For those with a long journey home there is an option to bus to Bundaberg early on Sunday 12/9/10 to get a head start.

Cost for bus transport does not include your bike so remember to book your bike transport separately. See the Bike Transport info sheet for details and conditions for the excellent bike transport options. Volunteers do not pay for event transport.
Friday 3rd September 2010 - travel to Yeppoon
Departing: Bundaberg event car park, 1pm, 4.5 hours duration, $60

Destination: Brisbane (central location) 1pm, 5 hours duration, $70
Destination: Brisbane Domestic Airport 12 noon, 5 hours duration, $70
Destination: Rockhampton event car park 12.30pm, 4 hours duration, $60
Sunday 12th September 2010 - travel from Gin Gin to Bundaberg - not riding on last day
For those who are in a hurry to leave, catch this bus to Bundaberg early to connect to the airport, train station and event car park. Good for those who have a long journey ahead and/or difficult connections to juggle.
Destination: Bundaberg 7am, 1 hour duration, $20
Car parking
Car parking in Bundaberg is outdoor from Friday 3/9/10 to Sunday 12/9/10. $60 per vehicle.
Event charter buses to Yeppoon will depart from this location on Friday 3/9/10 at 1pm (book separately from your car parking). On Sunday 12/9/10 event charter buses will run from the finish site to the car park (4km from the finish site) continuously. This is a free service. Bundaberg is completely flat so the ride is fairly easy also and simple to navigate as well.
Car parking in Rockhampton is outdoor from Saturday 4/9/10 to Sunday 12/9/10. $60 per vehicle.
The site is 40km from Yeppoon but will make the return journey post-event so much easier.
Event charter buses to Yeppoon will depart from this location on Saturday 4/9/10 at 8am (book separately from your car parking). We suggest you arrive in Yeppoon on Friday and drop off your gear and "spare" bodies then dash back to Rockhampton on Saturday morning to drop off the car and catch the bus back. On Sunday 12/9/10 event charter buses will run from the finish site in Bundaberg to the Rockhampton car park departing at 12.30pm (book separately from your car parking).
Private Support Vehicles
Private support vehicles are not permitted on the event. Bicycle Queensland provides support along the route and on the campsites. Riders supported by private vehicles risk being excluded from the event.
Vehicle Transfers
For some participants it works well to drive to and from the event. Bicycle Queensland can assist with this by transferring a limited number of vehicles from start to finish, in exchange for the vehicle being available to the organisers for use during the event.
This service is limited by both the number that can be transferred and the suitability of vehicle for BQ's use. Contact Bicycle Queensland for further information. The Vehicle Transfer Application Form is available (297Kb PDF).

There are a number of options to get to the event. Bicycle Queensland recommends riders use the charter bus services listed above in combination with car, train or plane travel.Flights
Yeppoon is 40km east of Rockhampton on an out and back road. Access via Rockhampton Airport with connections.
Rockhampton is serviced daily by all the airlines with connections north and south, 15 flights a day from Brisbane plus a direct flight from Sydney.
Bundaberg is serviced daily by QANTAS with connections to major Queensland centres. By mid year it is expected to have expanded services and airlines. It is one hour from Brisbane.
Train
Yeppoon is 40km east of Rockhampton on an out and back road. Access via Rockhampton with bus connections as part of your train ticket.
Rockhampton is serviced by the Tilt Train and Travel Train along the main east coast rail line.
Bundaberg is serviced daily by the Tilt Train and Travel Train along the main east coast rail line.
Bus
Yeppoon is 40km east of Rockhampton on an out and back road. Access via Rockhampton with bus connections with Young's Bus Service.
Rockhampton is serviced daily by Greyhound Coaches along the main east coast highway.
Bundaberg is serviced daily by Greyhound Coaches along the east coast highway network.
Summary of options for your bike
We are providing options for you to offload your bike before leaving home and then to travel home post event without your bike. This makes it easier to use any form of transport without having to worry about space and cost for your bike or the trouble of having to carry it boxed up. If you drive to Bundaberg or Yeppoon then you can fit more people and luggage into your vehicle if you are free of your bike.

If you book one of our charter buses then you must book your bike separately as the charter bus costs for the event do not automatically include your bike unless specifically stated so.

Home to Yeppoon service - from Brisbane and surrounds - $35
Covers Brisbane, Ipswich, Logan, Beenleigh, Redlands, Redcliffe and Samford.
For 327 selected suburbs in Brisbane and surrounds your boxed bike will be collected from your address and delivered to Yeppoon.
Home to Yeppoon service with flexible dates - $10 extra for each pickup
This service is an add-on to the service noted above (Home to Yeppoon service - from Brisbane and surrounds) but you can choose a different pick up date (limited). This means if you are leaving early for your holiday then we have the solution for your bike.
Bike box delivery pre-event - to Brisbane and surrounds - $25
For 327 selected suburbs in Brisbane and surrounds a new cardboard bike box will be delivered to your house.
For orders of 4 or more boxes delivered to any location within striking distance of one of our depots please call to discuss the options.
Bike packing at finish
When headed home you may need to pack your bike for transport home (e.g. home service, depots, flying, long bus trip). For this you will need either a new cardboard bike box or your own packaging you used to get to the start and we have transported for you.
Options are:
- Transport a hard or soft case from start to finish.
- Transport a flat packed cardboard bike box from start to finish.
- Purchase a new BQ cardboard bike box to be supplied at the finish.
Bundaberg to Home service - to Brisbane and surrounds - $30
Covers Brisbane, Ipswich, Logan, Beenleigh, Redlands, Redcliffe and Samford.
For 327 selected suburbs in Brisbane and surrounds your boxed bike will be delivered from the finish site to your address.
Bundaberg to Home service with flexible dates - $10 extra for each delivery
This service is an add-on to the service noted above (Bundaberg to Home service - to Brisbane and surrounds) but you can choose a different return date (limited). This means if you are extending your holiday then we have the solution for your bike.
Depot to Yeppoon and Bundaberg to Depot service
Depot to Yeppoon service: You deliver your boxed bike to our transport depot and we deliver it to Yeppoon where you collect it.
Bundaberg to Depot service: Your boxed bike will be delivered from the Bundaberg finish site to our transport depot where you collect it.

Take my bike on the bus with me
For people who are unable to use the Home or Depot Services then you can still "take your bike on the bus with you"(although note that invariably they will end up on a truck).
We encourage you to use the other services if possible as these provide you with the best flexibility and also allow us the best chance to get everyone to the start on time. They also save you the trouble of getting both your boxed bike and your luggage to the bus departure.
Bikes with you on the bus best suits people who are travelling from regional areas where we do not have depot locations or via the Brisbane Airport although we do now offer depots in Sydney, Canberra, Melbourne, Cairns and Townsville.
Costs vary for each bus.
