Craig Thompson

Nominated for: Vice-President

I served as Vice President of Bicycle Queensland in 2007 and during that period learnt a great deal about the way that BQ is structured and operates. There is a major focus on managing events and this utilises a lot of resource. Relationships with Brisbane City Council and the state government have strengthened and BQ is now able to engage directly with key politicians. Closer relationships have been formed with Bicycle User Groups throughout the state and a workshop for BUG committee members has been arranged.

In 2008 my desire is to ensure BQ has a staff structure and adequate staff resource to manage events without detracting from the other functions that BQ undertakes. We need to ensure our management systems are robust and adaptable to cope with the expected growth in BQ.

I am employed as a Senior Traffic Engineer for Cardno consulting engineers and this role allows me to study how people move around cities. Being able to readily travel by walking and cycling around our cities is becoming vitally important and BQ has a role to play in advocating for improved facilities and encouraging more people to cycle. I believe my traffic engineering skills and my knowledge of the commercial environment will allow me to make a valuable contribution to the management committee in 2008.
