More than $60K for diabetes research

NB - This post refers to the 2006 event … a great result for Diabetes Australia Qld, and for the riders in the event! In 2007, this event will be supporting Heart Foundation AND Diabetes Australia Qld.

The Wilson HTM Brisbane to the Gold Coast Cycle Challenge is a ride in aid of diabetes. The funds raised by riders who decided to become members of Team Diabetes went directly to Diabetes Australia - Queensland. This year that amount is more than $10,000, although not all the “Team D” riders have finalised their fund-raising yet.

There was also an option in the entry form to make a direct donation to DAQ. And a portion of every entry fee went to diabetes research as well. And finally DAQ also raised money from some of the on-the-day activities of the event, such as the cloakroom and bike parking.

With all that in mind, Bicycle Queensland is pleased to announce that more than $60,000 has been raised by the Wilson HTM Brisbane to the Gold Coast Cycle Challenge this year. BQ will be handing over a cheque for $50,827 to Diabetes Australia - Queensland at a ceremony at Wilson HTM’s offices in November.

Congratulations to all riders, especially those who chose to go the extra mile and do some fund-raising. Supporting research into the causes of diabetes is an excellent thing to do, and we hope to grow this aspect of the event substantially over the next few years.
