The 100km ride will start from Grey St, South Brisbane between Melbourne and Glenelg Sts from 5.30am. There will be a progressive start with each speed category heading off at a different time.

For safety (to minimise speed differentials on the bike route) faster riders will be released first and then each speed category in descending order. It is expected that each speed category will be released at approximately the following times:

30kph+ (red): 5.30am

25 to 30kph (amber): 5.45am

20 to 25kph (blue): 6.10am

below 20kph (green): 6.30am

We encourage everyone to be there early but note the last rider will not leave until 6.45am. Riders can continue to approach the start site after the event has begun.

Getting to the 100km start: If you are arriving by car, it is best if you are dropped off some distance from South Bank and ride the last bit.

The Convention Centre car park is open 24 hours – access off Merivale St.

If riding with friends then meet up with them before arriving at the start site because as the site fills it becomes difficult to find your pals and doing so creates bottlenecks in the traffic flow.

Sunrise is at 5.15am so you should use lights during the twilight beforehand.

Approaching the 100km start site:

Grey St will be closed between Melbourne St and Glenelg St from 3am until 8.30am. You will not be able to access the start site from Melbourne St directly into Grey St or from the north on Grey St. Check the speed category noted on Your Ticket to Ride then note the access that will work best for you. Following these access points will place you in the correct location to start the event in your selected speed category. Look for the category signs guiding you and see the map above for direction arrows.

30kph+ (red) category riders must approach from the south along Grey St and enter the left lane after crossing Glenelg St. If coming from the north or the City connect to Merivale St then turn left into Glenelg St then left into Grey St.

25 to 30kph (amber) category riders must approach from the south along Grey St and enter the right lane after crossing Glenelg St. If coming from the north or the City connect to Merivale St and then turn left into Glenelg St then left into Grey St.

20 to 25kph (blue) and below 20kph (green) category riders: approaching from south should use The Promenade, those from the north, West End area or the City should use Melbourne St then travel through the Cultural Forecourt.

Making the 100km start site work: there are a few smart things you can do to make a big difference to the start site success. These things will result in a small reduction to your freedom (and a chance of separation from your pals) but a big increase in satisfaction.

Designated access ways are created to maintain free movement and for safety - DO NOT BLOCK THEM UP! In addition to other areas as defined on the day, all footpaths are access ways.

Please do not move between speed categories as you will clog up the site.

If you are riding with a group your speed will be that of the slowest person in the group.

The starting arch is an important part of site and route safety – you must pass through it.

The ride finishes at Mitchell Park, Southport on the broadwater on Gold Coast Highway directly opposite North St (end of Smith St).

Make sure you grab your free merchandise. There’ll be live entertainment from 9am to 1pm and a number of vendors selling food and drink.

Prizes will be announced/drawn during the official ceremony at 11am. You don’t need to be there to win but it’s more exciting if you are!

Bus Transport

For those who have booked a bus in advance, head to the Bus Tickets tent when you arrive at the finish and grab a ticket home for the time of your choice. To speed up the process, pick your time before you head to the counter.

A ticket means you are guaranteed a seat on that service and just need to come back at least 20 minutes before it departs. Riders are expected to help load bikes and then unload at the other end.

The buses back to South Bank will leave every half hour between 11am and 3pm. Your bike will travel in an accompanying truck.

The shuttle bus to Helensvale Railway Station will leave every half hour from 11.15am to 2.45pm. Your bike will travel in an accompanying truck.
